This T5 came to us after the owner had done an ASZ engine conversion (converted from the original AXD / AXC engine to the ASZ). He decided to keep the ASZ injectors (038130073AL) and turbo (Garrett GT1749va) which meant that the EDC16 ECU would need to be recalibrated for the van to run smoothly and safely with these components from an EDC15 car fitted.
When the van arrived I started by writing a base tune for the injectors so that I could check the health of the van - once that was completed and the van was idling smoothly (the injectors will cause a rough idle when not "mapped in") I performed my other usual health checks to ensure the injectors are in good health and the timing is correct and boost control is working etc. and proceeded with tuning. This van was still using the original 5 speed gearbox so I tuned it with smooth torque onset in mind, bringing the fuelling and boost on more gradually to give the box a fighting chance. At the owners request we didn't go crazy on the power - so we ended up at 165bhp and 370nm of torque! This setup would be capable of 175bhp and 420nm very easily with a 6 speed gearbox.
We have tuned 100's of these conversions in T5's, caddy's, MK5 golf's, MK2 Seat Leon's etc. so please get in touch if you need any advise or if you need your car/van tuning!
